Receiving Credit & Volunteering

If you're interested in joining our lab as an undergraduate researcher, please read through the options below.

Volunteering

  • Volunteer students must be in the lab for at least 10h/week, for a minimum of 3h/day at a time. We recommend 2 days/ week at 5h each since the commute adds significant time to your day. FOr students who have worked with us before and are trained volunteer minimal hours are 5h/ week

  • Typically, we will ask students to come on as volunteers during their first semester, and then they will have the option of receiving credit in future semesters.

  • You will need to complete and turn in the Volunteer Form before working in our lab. Please don't fill out this form and attempt to turn it in without first reaching out to us to discuss your potential involvement in the Robel Lab.

Credit

  • Credited students must be in the lab for at least 10h/week divided up between two days. This equates to 3 credit hours.

  • Students doing research for credit for their first or second semester will work at the NEUR 2994 level.

    • Students can choose to be graded at the A-F level, which requires them to complete a poster by the end of the semester.

    • Students can choose to take credit P/F, which would not require them to complete a poster by the end of the semester.

  • Students doing research for credit for their third semester or beyond will work at the NEUR 4994 level. Some exceptions can be made to this rule.

    • Students taking credit at this level will be graded A-F and will be required to complete and present a poster by the end of the semester.

  • You will need to complete and turn in the Research for Credit Form before beginning work in our lab. Instructions on how to fill out the form can be found here. Please don't fill out this form and attempt to turn it in without first reaching out to us to discuss your potential involvement in the Robel Lab.
