Kijana joined the Robel Lab as a graduate student from the Translational Biology, Medicine, and Health Program in 2018. He completed his undergraduate studies at Wake Forest University in 2016, where he received his B.S. in Biology.
His first research project looked at the behavioral changes in earthworms after transient receptor potential (TRP) channel activation. In the Robel Lab, he is developing a serum-free astrocyte cell culture model to screen for blood-borne factors that may contribute to astrocyte dysfunction after a mild TBI.
Outside of the lab, Kijana enjoys playing his guitar and writing his own music as a creative outlet. He enjoys cooking Caribbean food to pay homage to his upbringing and going to the gym.
